The best spring retreats to book ASAP

From two-a-day Pilates in Tulum to sound baths in Marrakech.

by Clark Williams | 02.13.2019

For when your PTO days are precious and your trip-planning time is limited, there are retreats: organized escapes that have the added bonus of helping you master the yoga headstand, learn to prepare raw food, make it a week without talking, or just generally feel chill af.

While there’s sometimes “work” involved (hey, emotional breakthroughs don’t just happen), it’s a different kind of work than what you might usually deal with in the office and often happens far away from the stresses of everyday life. Best of all? You just need to show up at the retreat, and the rest is taken care of. (In case The Glassy’s ultra-curated city guides still require too much trip planning.)

Here are the top retreats around the globe this March and April–from long weekends to multi-day intensives–that are so worth the vacation days.

Winter weekend retreat with Rebecca Conran and Gabriel Andruzzi in Patterson, NY
When: March 1-3
What: The perfect cold-weather reset for anyone who hates activity-packed retreats; this one, featuring legit amazing energy healer Rebecca Conran and sound healer Gabriel Andruzzi (yup, he used to be in The Rapture), is all about giving you space to think, reflect, and journal…in between sound baths and breathwork, natch.

Chica Brava surf retreat in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
When: March 2-9
What: If you’re dead-set on nailing your pop up by the end of the week, opt for Chica Brava rather than booking a room at Maderas Village. The ladies-only surf camp is less about the scene (although you’ll be staying right in the middle of San Juan del Sur) and more about the surf.

Soul Adventures Vibrate At Your Highest Frequency retreat in Goa, India
When: March 3-10
What: Seven days of Kundalini yoga and meditation (with some reiki and shamanic healing mixed in because YOLO) meant to clear energy blockages and help you get high on your own supply. Each day focuses on a different chakra–including the food you’re served up each day.

Yogascapes Discover Your Elemental Flow retreat in Sri Lanka
When: March 17-23
What: A little bit of yoga, a little bit of Ayurveda, a little bit of touristing: This Yogascapes tour of Sri Lanka hits the retreat trifecta.

Optimal Health Within Reach retreat in Scotts Valley, CA
When: March 22-24
What: Alt-medicine guru Dr. Andrew Weil is sharing his wisdom—okay, and what is likely to be very delicious food—at this multi-day workshop at 1440 Multiversity. Topics on the agenda include nutrition, sleep, and mind-body medicine…basically, things you deal with daily that could have a major impact on your health.

Yoga For Bad People retreat in Providencia, Colombia
When: March 31-April 6
What: Yoga…with a heavy dose of fiesta time on this hidden-gem of a Caribbean island. NY-based yogi Jamie Lugo’s leading this trip, FYI.

Chica Brava surf retreat in San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua
When: April 6-13
What: The ladies-only surf camp’s home base this week is at their Cloud Farm location, a low-key jungle villa on 500 acres of land–organic garden included. Expect good food and even better surf.

Yogascapes Spring Revival retreat with Sara Hess and Matt Champoux in Philo, California
When: April 12-14
What: Vinyasa flows book-end a weekend filled with farm (er, backyard)-to-table meals and nature strolls at this stunning NoCal retreat center.

Soul Adventures Easter Soul Medicine retreat in Ibiza Spain
When: April 18-22
What: For those who can’t commit to a week in Ibiza (um, get your priorities straight), Soul Adventures offers an Easter weekend super sesh packed with Kundalini yoga classes and locally sourced, detox-centric meals meant to maximize the whole food-as-medicine concept.

SkyTing Yoga and Sound retreat with Abby Paloma and Sara Auster in Marrakech, Morocco
When: April 20-27
What: Sara Auster’s sound baths are transformative on their own; add in ultra-stylish accommodations, yoga and pranayama classes, and loads of activities (from a trip to a hammam to an organic cooking workshop)—all with Marrakech as your backdrop—and you’ve got a next-level experience.

Ketanga Power Yoga and Adventure retreat in Estoril, Portugal
When: April 25-29
What: Anything but a low-key retreat—think vinyasa flows paired with HIIT moves, bike rides to private beaches, horseback riding through the countryside, and hiking the Sintra coast. The hotel you’ll be staying at does have a pool, in case you just want to say, “Nope!” and chill by the water instead.

New York Pilates retreat with Heather Andersen in Tulum, Mexico
When: April 27-May 2
What: Two-a-days with Pilates goddess Heather Andersen (plus beach runs, yoga sessions, and posture workshops) might sound like a lot—but it’s paired with loads of beach time, afternoon cocktails, and a very boozy group dinner. In other words: Nothing’s too serious, other than the burn you’ll probably feel beginning on day two….
